SOS: Yr 9 Camp!

Monday 23rd of May

On Monday the Year 9's had a anal Year 9 camp.

This camp was placed in Camp Adair in a bit of South Auckland.
This camp was a chance for us juniors to get long with our senior mentors.

Of course we hadn't all woken up like early birds and had met up in the cold morning our groups gathered in the assembly hall for a roll check and off we went!

Around the time we had arrived in YMCA Camp Adair the wind blew off the cold air into the area we were staying in for the night, Our instructions was given to us before we had set off to our dorms with our Senior Mentors.

We had a few challenges throughout the few days and 1 night stay at Camp Adair, One of those challenges was the water outage and what a coincidence it would be to have that kind of circumstance on our last day of camp, Part of our Puriri Team had to leave quite early due to health issues thar concerned the water outage.

A highlight of mine was getting to know my mentors more in the small amount of time & activities we had spent together.
My favorite Team Challenge would have been the leap of faith, I enjoyed the experience of jumping off the tip of the pole but 1 thing I can take from the activity is that you get major wedgies!

Social Studies:Survival group work

 |Island|

|The Boat:Crusier|

Our Social Studies Task is based on Survival.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience a disaster such as landing onto a unknown Island?
What would it be like to go maybe 50 days of survival mode?
Our first mission was based on our boat name which was named the 'Cruiser'.

Our second mission was where the real story started,
I took the chance to draw the island of where we would land on.
We then as a group all decided which positions we would be put into.

Trinity: Look out, Control person, Technical female in the group
Mata: The Hunter & The cooker
Jarreka (Me): Strategy planner, Medical person, Leader, Person who takes care of the group

We had all decided to pick me as the Leader because I was the most confident of the group and I would have the responsibility to  lead the group out of harm and keep them safe.

Then there was a 'What if?' moment in class.
What if there were enemies on the other side of the island? And how would we deal with this disaster?
Our group came up with a strategy that involved traps and specific positions, The traps would be set around the island and each of us would be set in a hidden hut.
